Remolding a Jon Boat

You that have ever fished out of a jon boat know how difficult it can be to get in the boat. Navigating the support ribs and climbing over the middle bench seat headed to the back seat can be hazardous for anyone, let alone an old man with limited mobility. In order for me to run the stern mounted trolling motor I must straddle the back seat. Believe me it ain’t comfortable, not at all. I’ve had three surgeries on my cervical spine and numerous injuries to my Lumbar Trying to operate the trolling motor and fish at the same time becomes painful for me very quickly. Seldom can I fish for more than two hours at a time.

I bought a bigger jon boat thinking it would make things easier. I also bought a two-man plastic type boat, but neither improved my comfort. My son and I were talking one day about fixing one of the jon boats special for my physical limitations. The next day I went by his shop to see him and there was the MonArk jon boat. The two bench seats had been removed and sanding on the boat was well underway. I was pleasantly surprised to be sure. I snapped a few pics to keep a record of the progress on my new fishing machine! The last time I saw the boat it looked like the latter pictures. I am looking forward to seeing it finished.
